PATRICIO OROZCO

Director, writer and curator working across documentary, performance and cultural history.

Patricio Orozco develops projects exploring the relationship between literature, culture and contemporary experience through documentary film, live performance and public programming. Working between London and Buenos Aires, his practice moves across cinema, theatre and historical memory, often examining how cultural narratives continue to shape the modern world.

Much of his work engages with Shakespeare and his afterlives, exploring the ways classical texts remain present within contemporary questions of power, identity, desire and collective memory. Alongside Shakespeare-related projects, his films and cultural initiatives investigate broader themes surrounding historical imagination, national identity and the transmission of culture across generations.

At the centre of his work lies a continuing interest in how stories survive through time — and in the relationship between performance, memory and place.

SCREEN, PERFORMANCE & SHAKESPEARE

Orozco’s work combines documentary, theatre, literature and visual culture through an international practice developed between Europe and Latin America.

His documentary Will’s Book: Shakespeare’s First Folio was broadcast on Sky Arts in the United Kingdom and AMC in the United States, with international distribution in more than forty countries through TVF International.

His work also includes Give Way to Design, a documentary exploring the evolution of road signage in the United Kingdom and its transformation from functional infrastructure into a defining element of British visual culture. The film examines the legacy of designers Jock Kinneir and Margaret Calvert, alongside the lasting influence of modern signage on public space, design and cultural heritage. A special UK preview of the film is scheduled to take place at St Bride’s Church, London, in March 2026.

Through Yorick Entertainment in London, Orozco has developed television and documentary projects including From the West End, broadcast by AMC America and distributed internationally as in-flight entertainment across multiple airlines.

Recent and developing projects continue to explore the relationship between literature, politics, performance and the interpretation of history through documentary and live forms.

PUBLIC PROJECTS & CULTURAL PROGRAMMING

Orozco is the founder and director of Festival Shakespeare Buenos Aires, the first festival of its kind in Latin America, as well as Fundación Romeo, an organisation dedicated to educational and cultural initiatives connecting the arts with public institutions, international collaborations and communities with limited cultural access.

Over the past two decades, he has created festivals, exhibitions, screenings, workshops and site-specific cultural projects across Latin America and Europe.

Many of these works unfold in theatres, cathedrals, archives, historic buildings and public spaces, often bringing performance into dialogue with architecture, music and historical setting.

Alongside his work in Argentina, he directs Yorick Entertainment in London and Próspero Producciones in Buenos Aires.

Through Fundación Romeo, he has led educational and fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the British Embassies in Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, supporting scholarships and arts programmes across diverse communities.

WRITING, MEDIA & VISUAL ARTS

Orozco is the author of the first Spanish-language biography of Samuel Beckett, published by Argentina’s National Theatre Institute, reflecting a longstanding engagement with modern theatre and literary history.

He also translated and published the Spanish-language edition of Manga Shakespeare: Hamlet.

Work in criticism, broadcasting and cultural journalism has included collaborations with radio and print media in Argentina on theatre and contemporary culture, alongside contributions to newspapers including La Nación, Clarín, Página/12 and Perfil.

A background in visual arts includes a scholarship from Argentina’s Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, with exhibitions presented in Buenos Aires and Paris. This visual sensibility continues to influence the cinematic and spatial language of his films and live projects.

Before moving fully into film and cultural programming, Orozco spent more than two decades working across communication, media and public engagement through Comunicación Global, a consultancy collaborating with educational and sports institutions throughout Argentina, Uruguay and Spain.

Between 2012 and 2014, he also worked as an external consultant for Argentina’s national rugby team, Los Pumas, developing cultural programming and hospitality experiences during international test matches and Rugby Championship fixtures.
